If you have already registered, please confirm below

LT Karl LeWuan Harris, aka. Wuan Harris is delighted to join Great Blue Hill Sail & Power Squadron to share Coast Guard direction, trends, and stories of the First Coast Guard District. District 1 covers 2,000 miles of coastline from the Canadian Border down to New Jersey. Karl will specifically discuss boating safety, the upcoming 2018 boating season, and new developments in the Boston, Cape and Island regions. He will highlight the patrol and rescue work of the brave men and women assigned to the many stations throughout the region LT Harris will be available to answer your questions to the best of his ability.

LT Harris is from Seattle, but has resided in the Boston area for the last 8 years. He graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelors of Criminal Justice and B.A. (Sociology) in 2005. After a short stent in retail management, in 2008 Karl decided to join the US Coast Guard to pursue a career in federal law enforcement. After completing basic training, Karl assumed an assignment on the CGC VIGILANT out of Cape Canaveral, Fla. Soon after, Karl chose the Operations Specialist rate, where he worked in communications and assisted in search and rescue planning at Sector Boston. While serving in the Boston area, Karl spent time at sea onboard the CGC ESCANABA. In 2013 Karl was accepted into Officer Candidate School. As an officer, then ENS Harris wrote and reviewed contingency plans, organizing exercises to respond to oil spills, mass rescue operations and security incidents for Sector Southeastern New England.

In 2016, Karl was reassigned to Coast Guard District One as a member of the operational planning staff, where he provides nonorganic assets to sub-units and monitors boat, aircraft and mission hour allotment. He also drafts asset management policies. Over the last year and half LT Harris earned his Masters of Science in quality systems management.

In his spare time from a 2 year old daughter and wife, he enjoys road cycling, outdoor activities, home renovation projects and volunteering in the community.

This meeting is also the Great Blue Hill Annual Meeting. We will vote for our 2018-2019 Bridge officers and Executive Board members and for revisions to our By-Laws. All members are urged to attend.
